Fee:  $8.00 entry fee per composition/per student (KMTA/KMEA Teachers); $15.00
additional entry fee for non-KMTA or KMEA music teachers.




Konza Opus 8  is an original music festival, dedicated to the discovery of music
compositions created by students for shared performance and study.

Purpose:  To foster creativity among students and teachers by encouraging composition
and improvisation.   To encourage students to use the elements of music to express their
own musical ideas, thus becoming more fluent in the language of music.

Konza Opus 8 is an event sponsored by the Manhattan Area Music Teachers Association
(MAMTA).

Konza Opus 8 invites your submission of an original composition for any solo instrument,
including voice, or any combination of instruments with piano accompaniment.   

The categories are as follows:
Pre-Junior  -  (Grades 1-3)  -  (8 measure minimum)     
Junior  -  (Grades 4-6)  -  (16 measure minimum)
Intermediate  -  (Grades 7-9)  -  (16 measure minimum)                        
Senior  -  (Grades 10-12)  -  (32 measure minimum)
                                                                                                 
Judging of compositions:
Each student will receive a Certificate of Participation and evaluation sheet used to
assess the composition.  The evaluation sheet will be a “positive-encouragement”-based
assessment tool for each composition, revealing the strengths and weaknesses of the
composition.

All student composers are encouraged to enter their compositions in the KMTA or
KMEA
composition contest.

Awards will be as follows:
Senior:  1st Place $70   -   2nd Place $40   -   3rd Place $20
Intermediate:  1st
Place $50   -   2nd Place $25   -   3rd Place $15
Junior:  1st
Place $25   -   2nd Place $15   -   3rd Place $10
Pre-Junior:  1st
Place $15   -   2nd Place $10   -   3rd Place $5

Winners will be awarded at the judges discretion.    The judge may choose NOT TO
AWARD a winner in each category.
